Autumn Gives Us a Simple Game Plan for Life!

by 2 Comments

autumn game plan for life

If we ever needed a simple game plan for life, it’s now!

And wow, what a beautiful fall day it is in the Mid-Atlantic. To think only a few long weeks ago we were struggling to make it through the dog days of summer.

Man, I love this time of year!

So, I’m a little confused over exactly when Autumn arrived in this monumental year. Was it September 23rd like usual, or was it the 22nd this year? Get this… “some people” make it easy and simply call this season fall on the first day of September. Why make things difficult after all?

Autumn 2020 has arrived, and it brings a game plan for life.

Seasons are when the earth sheds its skin, strengthens its roots, and rests before starting over again. Sounds like a game plan for life for humans as well. Enjoy the coolness of Fall and prepare for that rest period ahead.”

—Mike Lynch, a friend from way-back-when, writes get your day going right thought-provokers on Facebook.

Let’s dig into that plan a little.

  1. The earth sheds its skin
  2. Strengthens its roots
  3. Rests before starting over again

When you think about it, there’s a lot of wisdom in this simple metaphor. I’ve never quite thought of autumn this way before. And it really is the beginning of a process of cleansing by lightening your load. Then strengthening your roots which is a metaphor within itself. And resting, the most neglected part of our modern lives.

autumn game plan for life

Trees shedding their leaves is akin to the earth shedding its protective skin. A process of letting go. One that, in turn, enables a rebirth.

The strengthening of roots is the practice of revisiting our beginnings. Remembering from where we’ve come. Our roots are the tie that binds.

And resting. You remember resting, right? You know, that thing we once did on weekends. Back then, we took resting so seriously that working humans would actually take two whole weeks off work and go on a bona fide family vacation. Seriously. People did that.

Now we leave resting and vacations to the underachievers. Patting ourselves on the back for our achievements, of course.

So, does that sound like a game plan for living?

What do you think? I’m sure it could be embellished. And improved. Why not? It’s what we humans do.

However, all-in-all it’s not a bad plan. So, let’s go over it one more time…

  1. Lighten your load by shedding your skin. That is—Let go of what’s weighing you down whether that’s another metaphor or otherwise.
  2. Strengthen your roots. Go back to basics. Reconnect with your beginnings… friends, family, callings. You decide.
  3. Rest before starting over again. Rest is not for the weak. It’s the secret to doing and being your best.

Then a new season follows… Be untucked.

Wow, just wow! I am humbled by your take on my ramblings Jeff. We’re all in this crazy world together and by bonding together maybe, just maybe we can survive all this negativity around us and move to a higher elevation.

A HUGE Thank You, Mike! Wednesday morning I had no idea what I might write about. Then you delivered a beautiful gem through your ‘ramblings,’ which are hardly that. And the honor was mine to join together as I refelcted on your inspiration. You’re absolutely one of the good guys out there, Mike… keep doing your thing. You are touching many hearts, minds, and souls in a very good way!
